Updating

Nimbreth keeps itself current. You do not re-download installers to move to a new version.

macOS

Nimbreth checks for updates in the background and downloads them automatically. When a new version is ready, it asks you to restart, and the update applies on relaunch. Updates are delivered from the same signed, notarized builds you install by hand, so there is nothing extra to trust.

Linux

AppImage installs update like macOS: Nimbreth downloads the new release in the background, verifies its checksum, and asks you to restart when it is ready. The swap only happens after a successful verification, and the running version stays untouched until you restart.

If you installed the deb, Nimbreth shows a notification when a new release is out. Clicking it opens the download page so you can grab the new package. The installed file belongs to your package manager, so Nimbreth does not replace it itself.

What an update never touches

• Your files and the folders your spaces live in.
• Your settings.
• Anything about who you sync with.

An update only swaps the application itself. Your data is untouched.

Power users

The terminal app updates itself with its own built-in updater (nimbreth update), independent of the desktop app. It is not documented here yet.
